Books, prizes, and epic adventures await! Are you ready?
WHAT IS IT?
HOLY BOOKWORMS is the NHRCES Summer Reading Program. It's a simple, fun, and free way to encourage kids to strengthen their reading skills, expand their knowledge, and foster a lifelong love of reading.
As students read and log their books, they'll earn fun prizes from the NHRCES and our generous sponsors including custom bookmarks and even vouchers for free games or meals at family favorites. There are even opportunities to participate in special "challenges" for a chance to win even bigger prizes at the end of the program!WHEN IS IT?
HOLY BOOKWORMS runs from June 6 - August 20, 2025WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The summer reading program is open to all students who will be attending Grades K-8 at an NHRCES school for the 2025-2026 school year.HOW DOES IT WORK?
It's easy! Just REGISTER - READ - RECORD - REWARD- REGISTER - Sign up your child(ren) for the Holy Bookworms Summer Reading Program using the button below. It's quick, easy, and completely free!
- READ - Encourage your child to read books they enjoy throughout the summer at their own pace and reading level.
- RECORD - After your child finishes a book, help them complete a short online form to log their progress.
- REWARD - After reaching each milestone, your child will earn special prizes that will be mailed directly to your home. Kids can also participate in any of our "Dig Deeper Challenges" for a chance to be entered into special raffles that will be awarded at the end of the program.
Milestone Rewards will be mailed out on a weekly basis from the Regional Office.

Wiggle Goals (Reading Milestones)

Squiggly Star
(Level 1)
Students achieve "Squiggly Star" status after reading 3 books or 300 pages.
Prizes- Custom HOLY BOOKWORMS Bookmark
- Student's name displayed on the HOLY BOOKWORMS website
- Free Kids Meal coupon from Applebee's

Chapter Champ
(Level 2)
Students achieve "Chapter Champ" status after reading 6 books or 600 pages.
Prizes- Students receive a dress-down pass that can be used during the first week of school.
- Recognition in the school newsletter
- Free Kids Meal coupon from Texas Roadhouse

Holy Bookworm
(Level 3)
Students achieve "Holy Bookworm" status after reading 10 books or 1,000 pages
Prizes- Certificate of Achievement presented in the fall
- 2-hour Free Play Pass to Fun Fore All
- Free Kids Meal coupon from Primanti Bros.
- Entered into raffle for a $25 gift card to a local bookstore
Raffle will be drawn and winner announced after end of reading program on August 20, 2025

"Dig Deeper" Challenges

Books
of
BeliefRead a book about the lives of the Saints or a book about the Catholic faith and write a short reflection to get an exclusive HOLY BOOKWORMS pin and certificate.
Pin and certificate will be awarded in the fall.

Family Chapter
TimeRead a book with a family member (parent, sibling, grandparent, etc.) and submit a photo of your reading time together for a chance to win a "Family Game Night Basket."

Full
STEAM
AheadRead a book related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, or Math (STEAM) and complete a related, hands-on experiment or project inspired by the story. Submit a photo of the completed experiment or project for a chance to win a "STEAM Dream Basket."

Book
vs.
BlockbusterRead a book that has a movie adaptation. After finishing the book and watching the movie, compare the two in a short reflection for a chance to win a "Family Movie Night Basket."

Please note - all "Dig Deeper" challenges that include a chance to win a basket will be awarded after the end of the program. Winners will be drawn from submitted entries after August 20, 2025 and notified. Basket pick-up arrangements will be coordinated through the Regional Office and your child's school.

Disciple
(Level 4)Students achieve "Dedicated Disciple" status after reading 25 books or 2,500 pages

- Entered into a second raffle exclusive only to students who achieve "stretch goal" status for a $25 gift card to a local bookstore

(Level 6)Students achieve "Bold Believer" status after reading 75 books or 7,500 pages.

Think you’ve got what it takes to be the top reader in your grade across the entire region? It’s time to prove it! We’re recognizing the Top Reader in each grade level—from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
